The Barber of Seville, by Gioachino Rossini
Miami Lyric Opera presents what is perhaps the funniest of all comic operas, The Barber of Seville. Rossini’s fun and lively romp starts with an overture that is instantly familiar to fans of opera, Woody Woodpecker and Bugs Bunny. The opera’s energy picks up with a non-stop parade of hit tunes, and concludes with an “all is forgiven” finale bubbling over with joy. You’ll laugh out loud at a series of slapstick tricks fit for a Warner Brothers cartoon that make this opera buffa as fresh and appealing now as when it first performed in 1816.
Performed in Italian with English supertitles.
A Red Curtain Series event, sponsored in part by Friends of Gusman, the Knight Foundation and the Miami Downtown Development Authority
